David, also known as Bobby, growing up, is survived by his former partner Rebecca Charisse Ellsworth of Sacramento, California and their adopted nephew, Brandon Ezekial Ellsworth and his wife Maggie and three children Claire, Jack and Ezekial Junior of Nashville, Indiana, their adopted niece, Addie Suzannah Damiano, nee' Ellsworth, and her husband Innocent, and children Tikhon, Justina, Alexander, Euphemia, and Joey, of Arizona, and their adopted goddaughter Nezhla Sanderson who lives with her sister Maria Smallidge Goldstein in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also survived by his dear younger siblings Thomas Denman and his wife Roseanne of Morris Plains, New Jersey, Maureen von Stetton of Germany, Edward Denman and his wife Laura of Morris Plains, New Jersey, Kathleen Ellison, nee' Denman, and her husband Dave and son Andrew of Spotsylvania, New Jersey, and youngest brother Joseph Denman and his wife Sue of Sparta New Jersey.
David R. Denman was a man of many talents and capabilities. He left an impact on many. If you were to look back on his life you would see that he lived a full life as an older brother, football star, devout Catholic in his younger years, and even voted cutest boy in high school. He finished college as a Civil Engineer and spent years of his early life as a Brown Brother in a religious Order, administering street missions and ministry work to women, children, and the less fortunate across the United States. As a matured man, he became a Reader in the Orthodox Christian Bulgarian Church mission with Father Jerome Sanderson, his daughter Nezhla's uncle, and even held services on his own property until it later moved to St. John the Barefoot Church in Nashville, Indiana, now closed. He finished his life as a member of the parent church, Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Bulgarian Church, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
An avid organic vegetable farmer with livestock and chickens, he participated in this home business as well as holding down his lifelong position as an environmental engineer for the state of Indiana. He retired from IDEM, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, when he was 70 years old after making lots of friends there that still love him today.
His biggest hobby in life besides working hard on his farm and other personal projects, was helping people. He would travel far and wide to assist and visit his friends, participate in causes such as Boy's camps, Native American Territory Advocacy, and helping monasteries with building projects. His hobbies later on in life were playing darts, harmonica and pickle ball with his local friends, and of course, keeping in touch with his family and close old and new friends everywhere. He will be definitely missed. May his soul rest in blessed peace with our Lord!
His wake is this Friday evening from 4pm to 7pm at Lauke and Veldhof Funeral Home on 1458 S. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46225. His funeral service is at Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Church at 8:30am this Saturday morning on 1516 N. Delaware St. Indianapolis, In 46202. Due to his remains being unembalmed according to Orthodox tradition, these services are held earlier than usual. If you cannot make any of those services, his actual burial will be at a monastery in Missouri this coming Monday morning. Please call His daughter Nezhla at 317.717.0573 for any details on that.
You are also invited to his Celebration of Life service at 2684 S. Whitehorse Rd, Nashville, in 47448, his former earthly home, for a Maple Syrup festival he originally started with his former wife in previous years and that is still held to this day. It will start at noon and is an open house till 8 in the evening or so. Hope to see you there. God bless and be with you all!
