Lori Gehring Obituary

Lori Lee Gehring, 61, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Franciscan Health Hospital. She was born on September 29, 1964, in Beech Grove, to the late Donald L. Rhinehart and Jane A. (Binninger) Rhinehart.

Lori grew up in the community of Emmaus Lutheran Church and graduated from Beech Grove High School in 1982. It was in the years that followed that she met the love of her life, Mark Allen Gehring. The two were married on July 13, 1990, in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park in Indianapolis — the beginning of a life built on love, laughter, and an ever-growing family.

And what a family it became. Family was the heart of Lori's world, and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She filled her days with crafting, antiquing, thrift shopping, and binge-worthy crime scene investigation shows. She had a fondness for sharks and a delight in collecting Buddhas and butterflies. She loved animals — including her cherished dog, Harley, who preceded her in death, and she loved people even more. Spunky, outgoing, and full of humor, laughter, and playful teasing, Lori had a gift for brightening any room she walked into. She was, simply put, everyone's mom: welcoming, warm, and accepting of all.

Throughout her courageous battle with cancer, Lori remained a light. She stayed positive, continued to put others before herself, and faced each day with the same quiet strength that defined her. Her kindness, her spirit, and her unconditional love will be felt for a long time to come.

Lori is survived by her husband, Mark A. Gehring; her children, Rachel (Rob) Wilhoite, Samantha "Sammy" (Jeremiah) Kilby, Tiffany (Connor) Hughes, and Chase Leon Gehring; her siblings, Lisa (Tom) Samuelson, Darin (Paula) Rhinehart, and Scott (Laura Ly) Rhinehart; and her twelve beloved grandchildren: Jasper, Landon, Jazlyn, Garrett, Jayven, Brantley, Paislee, Skylar, Sawyar, Tristan, Caida, and Cailee. She was preceded in death by her parents and her cherished dog, Harley.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date — a fitting tribute, as Lori loved nothing more than bringing the people she loved together.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity, or simply that you pause to perform a random act of kindness in Lori's memory. It's the most Lori thing there is.
