Welcome to our website!

Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services has been serving the south-side, downtown and greater Indianapolis Community since its inception in 1896 by Anthony J. Lauck. The first location was established on S. Meridian Street where I-70 currently crosses and was moved to its present location in the early 1920’s by Anthony P. Lauck, A.J.’s son.

Our current location was originally part of a large farm stretching back to West Street and the railroad tracks. Frederick Beck raised cattle and owned a slaughter house by the railroad tracks. They would slaughter the cattle and ship them out across the county. The original part of the house was built in 1877 and had additions added in 1954 and 1960.

The new additions, as mentioned, were added by Leo Lauck, Sr. who was quite active in the funeral business and community until his passing in 1972. The chapel he added in 1960 was one of the largest at that time and will seat 130 people. His son, Leo, Jr. then took over the family business in the early 1970’s and continues to help even though the business was sold to Jeff Veldhof in 2010. Jeff Veldhof completely remodeled the facility inside and out and brought everything up to date.

Providing comfort for our neighborhood families in their time of need is the main concern of the staff at Lauck & Veldhof. We are a small family owned firm and take great pride in the personal service we offer and the family-like atmosphere of our facility. Unlike most other funeral homes, at Lauck & Veldhof we only serve one family at a time. As in earlier times, Jeff lives above the funeral home to be more accessible when needed.

We believe in being an active part of our community: Jeff is a member of both St. Roch and  Sacred Heart Churches and serves on the parish council at St. Roch.  He is on the board of the Old Southside Neighborhood Association, a member of the Stadium Village Business Association and block captain with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.  A past member of the board at Roncalli High School and a former Lieutenant Governor with the Indiana District of Kiwanis International.  Currently he is the Faithful Navigator of the Bishop Chatard Assembly/Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and a former Grand Knight of the Msgr. James M. Downey Chapter of the Knights of Columbus, Council 3660.  Jeff also served as vice president for two years with the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Providing guidance and expertise to help families make informed decisions before the need arises is important to us. Advanced Funeral Planning is greatly encouraged and this service is offered without cost or obligation. Funeral home prices vary greatly from funeral home to funeral home and we are proud to be one of the lower cost providers in Indianapolis; direct cremation is offered for $1,497.80 (tax included) when paid at time of arrangements. If arrangements are made elsewhere, we would be happy to help you transfer them to our firm as the law allows.

We are here to help, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Providing compassionate care and affordable options…truly a part of our community!

Sincerely,

Jeff Veldhof
